IMPACT ASSESSMENT REPORT FOR THE PIETAN CARING MISSION FOR THE POOR

Introduction

Pietan Caring Mission for the Poor (PCM) is an independent, missionary-oriented, non-governmental, and not-for-profit-making organization operating in Nigeria. It is based in Enugu State and holds full registration status with relevant government agencies and institutions, including:

  • Enugu State Ministry of Gender Affairs and Social Development - MGASD/No. 000281
  • Corporate Affairs Commission - CAC/IT/No 146662
  • Special Control Unit Against Money Laundering-SCUML/No. 141400623.

PCM’s mission is open to all individuals with a passion to alleviate societal issues such as poverty, elder and child abuse, unemployment, and gender-based violence. The organization focuses on three main areas: the elderly, street children, and other vulnerable groups such as women, persons living with disabilities, and unemployed youths. Its primary objective is to address the root causes of these issues and improve the quality of life for its target groups while promoting economic development.

Our Milestones

PCM has undertaken various humanitarian activities to impact the lives of its beneficiaries, including:

Care of the Elderly

  • Pastoral Care: Spiritual preparation and home visits to elderly individuals, involving priests, pastors, and clergymen as needed.
  • Health/Medicare: Providing medical examinations, administering multivitamins and medicines, delivering healthcare talks, COVID-19 sensitization workshops, and food distribution.
  • Psychological and Socio-cultural Care: Organizing activities to promote self-dignity, reliance, and healthy living among the elderly.
  • Social Welfare Protection: Collaboration with other organizations to implement projects addressing elder abuse and creating safe spaces for the elderly.
  • Sensitization and Awareness Programs: Engaging in public awareness campaigns on elder care, including radio and TV programs, conferences, and street projects.

Care of Street Children

  • Rescue and Rehabilitation: Scouting, rescuing, and rehabilitating street children, providing shelter, education, moral formation, and family reunification.
  • Psychiatric Support: Engaging psychiatric services for guidance and counseling sessions to aid in the recovery of abused children.

Care of Other Vulnerable Persons

  • Providing services such as skill acquisition training, sensitization programs, pastoral care, healthcare, socio-cultural activities, and psycho-social support therapy.
  • Resolving troubled marriages, empowering youth through skills training, and raising awareness of abuse against men in families.

Conclusion

PCM acknowledges the ongoing need for support from individuals, government agencies, and national/international organizations to continue its work. It seeks assistance for various projects, including the completion of its rehabilitation center, establishment of a skills acquisition center, continuation of sensitization campaigns on elder care, and ongoing activities.
